Advisory services of daily life for foreigners

Machida International Center provides you various advisory services concerning the problems of daily life for foreigners. We would like to supply to foreigners necessary information required in their daily life or to give advisory services, which are needed to solve various difficulties in their daily life. We can also support them in the procedure to an administrative organization like city office or the municipal hospital and further in the translation and interpretation services concerning some languages. Our service is basically free of charge and your secrecy should be observed completely. We supply our service including advice by telephone like follows:

Date: Every Thursday and Saturday: 13:30 – 15:30

Issues to be treated: Visa, Nationality, Registration of foreigners, Status of residence, Job related problems, Contracts, Marriage, Divorce, Family problems and so on.

Japanese Classroom

Machida International Center supports foreigners to learn Japanese, which is necessary for foreigners to spend their daily life in safety and pleasure. We hope that Japanese and foreigners in the community improve the mutual understanding by learning Japanese in order to establish a cooperating society to live together and to understand each other as friendly neighbors.
Each class consists of a small number of persons and there are 4 steps: entry, beginner, middle and upper class taught by experienced volunteers that are dived to suit the level of each lessons.

The contents of lessons are hiragana, katakana, kanji, composition, grammar, reading and listening.

“Children’s Classroom” for foreign primary and secondary school children

In Machida International Center, “Children’s classroom” is held for foreign children (including returnee Japanese students). Young college student tutors will help you with your homework, and also learn Japanese face to face. You can make many friends here! Come on, why don’t you join us and study together?

Activity reports

Fire drill for foreigners March 7.2005
Fire drills were practiced in a lecture room of the Machida International Center. Through learning how to take a countermeasure when an earthquake occurs, participants became keenly aware of preparing against the disaster. The Session gave us an opportunity to consider the countermeasure against earthquake and its fire as a secondary disaster, including the introduction of disaster prevention goods, how to buy and handle a fire extinguisher, etc.

We recruit foreign volunteers.

Machida International Center also recruits constantly volunteers of non-Japanese residents. We expect you to help us in various fields such as translation, interpretation or active participation in exchange programs. Through international exchange activity at a local level, the city of Machida aims to be the town of citizens having ample international common sense.

1. We inform you the public announcement of events or activities of Machida International Center in advance.
2. We deliver you Machida International Center News, *Volontiers!* or other publications every month.
3. Certain activities or events carry special member rate or member priority limit, and you may take advantage of them.
4. You may borrow books from our library corner.

Individual Member

A volunteer who would like to participate in international exchange activities or to plan events or manage activities.

Individual Supporting Member

A person, while unable to participate in a regular volunteer activity, would like to participate in non-regular activities such as events of international exchange. For example, busy people who understand and agree to the view of Machida International Center fall under this category.

Membership fee / year

Individual: 2,000JPY (per year)
Individual Supporting Member: 2,000JPY (per share)
Student: 1,000JPY (per year)
Group Supporting Member: 10,000JPY (per share)
The period from April 1 to March 31 of the following year. A member joining in the middle of period will also be excluded on March 31.
How to apply: Remittance of the specified amount from post office will do – please use the designated transfer format provided in the Machida International Center.
